When I was living in Chicago, I discovered the amazing bakery Floriole.  Sadly, I didn’t happen upon this gem until a few months before I moved but once I found it I was completely smitten.

Their pastries are beautiful, there is almost always a hum of happy energy coursing through the guests, and they serve their tea in these amazing tea pots that remind me of french press for tea people.  When I was in town last weekend, I found time to stop in twice and soak up one of my favorite places in the city.  I spent a few glorious hours flipping through magazines during my first trip and caught up with one of my favorite friends the next day.  I wish we had a spot like this in Phoenix.

If you find the time to stop in, I recommend any of their teas and a croissant!  I’m certain you can’t go wrong with any of their beautiful pastries, sometimes a classic is all you need.

Fall Trends: Teacher Knows Best

As soon as I put on this outfit all the ladies who were styling me told me I looked like a teacher.  I felt like a really stylish teacher, but I can’t say I would have looked out of place at the head of a classroom.  One of my favorite parts of this experience was wearing outfits I never would have put together on my own yet feeling totally comfortable in them.  These pants by Sanctuary are incredibly comfortable and this top was so delicate and beautiful.

The fall trend in this is found in the mustard color of my pants.  Apparently it’s all the rage and I love it!  If you have fair skin like I do it’s sometimes tough to pull off mustard but pairing it with a bright top solved that problem right away.

Fall Trends: Art Effect Chicago

We paired it with these sweet red earrings and I posed with a globe because, why not?  This was definitely one of my favorite looks!  How do you feel about mustard this fall?  I really thought it was a trend I couldn’t wear but I’m excited to see that if I find the right pieces it will absolutely work for me!

Remember, you can get all of these looks at Art Effect in Chicago.  If you aren’t local, check out their website.  You will not be disappointed.

Eating Chicago: Milk & Honey

How many times have I sung the praises of this Wicker Park restaurant?  Obviously not enough because I’m going to talk about it again.  This restaurant is so, so delicious.  I finally had the opportunity to go for brunch and was not disappointed.  My sweet friend Alex, her sister Lauren, and her cousin Henry accompanied me and graciously allowed me to take pictures of their food when it came.

  • Lox
  • Waffles topped with nectarine and strawberries
  • Huevos rancheros
  • BBQ chicken burrito with sweet potato chips

I’m going to try to recreate my huevos rancheros as soon as possible.  I love that they were prepared in a casserole dish and the way the black beans were nestled under the eggs and salsa.  Everyone else enjoyed their meal as well and our only complaint was with the slightly rude wait staff.  Almost everyone we dealt with was curt with us and seemed irritated to be answering questions/taking orders/etc.  This is the first time I’ve really experienced the rude service so I’ll chalk it up to a bad day and leave it be.

I’ll be in Chicago for the rest of the week and I’m hoping to experience some new restaurants so I can share with all of you.  I love trying new things! I hope that you all had a lovely Labor Day weekend (those of you in the states, anyway). How did you celebrate?! I’ll be sharing more from my trip throughout the week.

Lincoln Park Zoo

I’ve wanted to go to this zoo for years–literally. I remember begging my crush freshman year to go to the zoo with me (to no avail) and it was one of my goals for spring break (freezing cold and rainy) so I when all the regular Chicago attractions were closed for NATO I knew it was my chance to get to the zoo.

For a free zoo, I was extremely impressed by the beautiful grounds, wide variety of exotic animals, and overall fabulous experience. If you’re in Chicago I’d recommend it in a heartbeat!

Ariel’s favorite animals were the meerkats.

My favorite animals were the monkeys and the giraffes.

What about you? Any favorite animals?

The Bean
The Bean

One of my favorite friends from Phoenix came out to Chicago to visit me last week. We spent a lot of time parked on my couch relaxing but we also got to do some fun touristy things. It was tough because NATO is in town and has closed the majority of the tourist attractions for the weekend but we made do. I dragged my sweet friend to the bean because I think it’s so beautiful. I realized I haven’t ever really taken pictures of it so I brought my camera along too. If you’re ever in Chicago this is a sight that simply MUST be seen.
