I’m still building my list of goals for this year (and still working my way through my list of 101 in 1001) but I decided that I wanted to improve my photography skills this year so I’m picking up on the, now very dated, 365 challenge. I’ll do my best to post them once a week on Saturday and share bits of pieces of life. Hopefully this will also force me to be creative on days when I feel stuck. Here are days 1 & 2.
This past weekend was both my birthday weekend and my second-t0-last weekend before starting my new job. I’m trying to be more social and experience more of what Arizona has to offer so when my friend Morgan invited me to the Arizona Taco Festival I simply couldn’t say no. I love a well-made taco and the weather is FINALLY nice enough that you can spend time outside so I was thrilled to attend this event.
(a good friend and good tacos!)
We saw some pretty interesting things. A stripper wearing roller-skates, a couple getting married, a hot chili pepper eating contest, and midget wrestling. We also ate some truly incredible tacos. My favorite came from the Four Seasons Scottsdale food truck. I also really enjoyed both the food and the entertainment from J.licious. It was a fun day but a bit overpriced, in my opinion. General admission was $12 and all food and drink cost extra. Here are some snaps from the day!
Now I’m dreaming of ways to reproduce the tacos I tasted. There is something truly divine about authentic Mexican food! Fresh tortillas are especially amazing. Any tips on making killer Mexican food? I’d love any advice you can throw my way on this subject :)
In my weekend update on Monday I mentioned that I had spent my day Sunday at the Gay beach. Perhaps you were unaware that such a place existed? Please, let me share.
As a student in an art school, I have had the privilege of meeting some awesome gay friends. What you may not know is that the gay community has all of these cool places to hang out that straight people are oblivious to. Example A, the gay beach. The first time I went was at the beginning of summer last year. I went in May so it was FREEZINGG in the water but I still had a blast hanging out on the beach. (last year) Since it’s been HOT HOT HOT outside this past weekend, I was thrilled when my roommate invited me to the beach to celebrate her birthday. My friends Clinten and Megan picked us up and off we went. The water was actually REALLY refreshing this time and I had so much fun making friends with all the people around me on the beach. (me and the birthday girl) (dino!) (Clinten and I recreating our picture from last year) (Clinten and Megan in their matching sunglasses)
At one point Cass, Clinten, and I went on a little walk. We stopped to take some pictures and this creepy man jumped in to one then got all up in my personal space and asked if the three of us would be interested in participating in an orgy with him. Hmm…. that’s a no…..
By far, the most interesting individual of the day was this guy… He came to the beach with TWENTY-ONE costume changes and I saw WAY more of his anatomy than I ever needed to see. However, it was so hilarious that I couldn’t resist snapping a few pictures. At one point, he shouted “IT’S SEVEN O’EIGHT BITCHES! I DON’T HAVE TO WEAR CLOTHES ANYMORE” then proceeded to strip off everything except for this mesh thong situation. Then he sprinted towards the water. This was my view… It was a fabulous day and I think I’ve got some pretty attractive friends if I do say so myself :). xoxo Mal
