365 Project – Week Two

I’m playing catch up. I spent the past 10 days traveling through Virginia and Chicago and unplugging from reality (kind of). It was a really special trip and I am back home feeling incredibly energized and creatively charged. I’m doing relatively well keeping up with my photo challenge but definitely am missing a few days here and there. Here are my daily images from January 3 – 9. I’ll be back later this week with the other images from my vacation to get fully caught up. I’m loving this challenge and already feel like my photos are slightly better simply because I’m more thoughtful about having my camera on me.

Things I Didn’t do on Vacation

Remember how I made goals for my vacation?  Yeah, me too.  Guess what?  I didn’t do most of them.  As a matter of fact, I only hit two out of the 10 (go to the zoo & read a book in a coffee shop) and I feel really fucking good about it.

Sometimes throwing your goals out the window and just doing the right thing in the moment is the best choice.  Instead of crossing items off a list, I spent time in the city I love, laughed with friends that made my heart happy, and ate food that made my soul feel good.  I walked, and walked, and walked…  Then I walked a little bit more.  I slept.  So much.  And it was GLORIOUS.  Sometimes I forget just how great it is to sleep when your eyes get tired and wake up when the sun tells you it’s time to do so.  Sometimes vacations are supposed to remind you to eat ice cream for breakfast, sit in a park by yourself for an hour, and to put your camera away because not everything needs to be documented.

So, you’re looking at my one picture from my trip.  And you know what?  I think it’s a perfect representation of my vacation.

When I was living in Chicago, I discovered the amazing bakery Floriole.  Sadly, I didn’t happen upon this gem until a few months before I moved but once I found it I was completely smitten.

Their pastries are beautiful, there is almost always a hum of happy energy coursing through the guests, and they serve their tea in these amazing tea pots that remind me of french press for tea people.  When I was in town last weekend, I found time to stop in twice and soak up one of my favorite places in the city.  I spent a few glorious hours flipping through magazines during my first trip and caught up with one of my favorite friends the next day.  I wish we had a spot like this in Phoenix.

If you find the time to stop in, I recommend any of their teas and a croissant!  I’m certain you can’t go wrong with any of their beautiful pastries, sometimes a classic is all you need.

Fall Trends: Polka Dots

Is it bold to say my favorite trend, in the history of trends, is over-sized polka dots?  When I saw this ensemble laid out for me at Art Effect I audibly squealed.  This is the sweater of my dreams!!!  I immediately envisioned myself wearing it with skinny jeans and flats for a day at work or paired with a fierce pair of shoes for a night out.  When paired with this sweet skirt it immediately became a perfect outfit for an early fall brunch.  The colors in this are so versatile while the pattern is a great play on such a classic pattern.  I really can’t get enough of this ensemble and you can bet I’ll include this sweater in my closet for many seasons to come.

Fall Trends: Leather Round Two

Fall Trends: Stripes

Remember those fabulous faux leather leggings from Tuesday?  Well they’re back again for today’s fall trend post.  In my opinion, the most important part of wearing trends is mixing them with pieces you will always love.  For me, stripes are a staple in my wardrobe.  If my pieces aren’t a solid color, they’re striped or polka dotted; what can I say, I know what I like!

I really loved these leggings and when I walked past this striped shirt I knew they would be perfect together.  I love the versatility of these leggings and I’m certain this shirt could become a well-worn favorite in my closet.  It’s so fun mixing my classic style up with the trend of the season!  Thanks again to the Art Effect gals for letting me crash their store.
